About OIR

Making NSW workplaces fair for employees and employers.

The Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) is responsible for monitoring employment rights, obligations and conditions in NSW.  Services offered by the OIR include:

  • information on NSW awards and legislation through the Award Enquiry Service, NSW Awards Online and a range of publications;
  • advice and assistance to help small businesses implement innovative, productive and equitable workplace practices;
  • seminars to help small business employers understand awards and employment law as well as recruitment and termination issues;
  • inspection services which provide information and educational services to employers to help them understand their obligations to employees;
  • the Behind the Label program which provides assistance to clothing outworkers; and
  • a dedicated unit to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in NSW understand their rights and responsibilities as employees, employers and managers.
