Selection process

There are three stages in the graduate selection process:

DSTA will assess all applications against the selection criteria.

Applicants who best meet the selection criteria will progress to the next stage of the selection process, a selection panel.

Selection panel

The selection panel usually consists of at least three people, convenor, independent and job expert.

  • The convenor is the leader of the selection panel.
  • The independent is a member of the panel who is not a current employee of the agency with the vacancy, and is preferably not a former employee.
  • The job expert is the member of the selection committee who is thoroughly familiar with the vacant position, its duties, its environment and the skills, knowledge and experience needed to do the job, including expert or technical aspects.

We have provided some interview tips to help you prepare.

Reference check

We will contact your referees if, as a result of the panel interview, we believe you to be one of the most suitable applicants.
